A
former Governor of Benue State and serving Senator of the Federal Republic,
George Akume has observed that Plateau State is one of the few luckiest states
in Nigeria to have one of the best performing Governors in Simon Bako Lalong.
The
Senator in his goodwill message during the Plateau State campaign flag-off of
the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) at the Rwang Pam Memorial Stadium Jos,
stated that Lalong has performed creditably well which has endeared him in the
minds of many and attracted goodwill from all and sundry to the state stressing
that Lalong stood imminently qualified to be rewarded.
According
to Akume, “please, if you don’t want Lalong, we want him in Benue state.
Please, give us Lalong” said the Senator.
Akume further stated that Markudi is currently
the dirtiest city in the country and that the current administration in the
state under Samuel Ortom has done nothing to improve the living condition of
the citizens of the state.
He
said he was shocked and marveled at the performance of Governor Lalong in the
state just within a period of three and half years and advised the people of
the state to ensure that their PVCs were well protected to enable them return
Lalong for second term in the next election.

In
his submission, Adams Oshiomlole, the National Chairman of the APC stated that
Governor Lalong has proven to be a true progressive and expressed happiness
that the governor has indeed given more meaning to progressive policies.
According to Oshimhole, Lalong has recognized that the primary purpose of
government is to ensure the welfare of its people saying that it was for this
reason that he made it a matter of priority when he assumed office to pay
salaries of workers left behind by his predecessor which according to him, was “a
clear breach of the law”.
“Lalong
recognizes that the primary purpose of government is the welfare of its people.
To pay workers salaries is service to domestic economy. He has also not abandon
pensioners, the youths, women and the disabled. I am happy that Lalong has
given meaning to progressive politics. To be progressive, is to be pro-masses;
to be pro-poor” said Oshiomhole.
In
his words, Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers State and the
Director-General of the Buhari/Osibanjo Campaign Council said he has known
governor Lalong for almost 19 years saying that he can attest to his humility.
He added that Lalong is also a man of his promise.” I have known him for 19
years and I cannot deny that he is a humble man. I will not deny that he is a
promise keeper and you have no choice than to return him.” He said.
Amaechi
also expressed shocked over massive infrastructural development in the state
achieved by the Lalong led administration within three and half years. He urged
the people of Plateau state to make sure that they return Buhari and Lalong in
the general elections to continue the good works they started.
In
her remarks, Dame Pauline Tallen, the former deputy governor of Plateau State,
who represented the wife of the President Buhari, Aisha also rained encomiums
on Governor Lalong. She said that the first Lady actually wanted to grace the
occasion personally but could not due to unforeseen circumstances but sent her
greetings to the people of Plateau State.
Mrs.
Tallen said that N-power was one of the best Economy empowerment programmes
ever witnessed in the history of Nigeria which has benefitted thousand of
unemployed youths even in Plateau State who were in attendance in the stadium.
She
urged the people of Plateau State to ensure that they voted Buhari and Lalong
and every other candidate under the plat form of the APC during the general
elections.
