The ruling All Progressive Congress
(APC) and the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are all said
to have failed the people of Nigeria, consequently, they are now rejected by
the people.
This was the submission of Hon.
Samuel Gyang, the National Welfare Secretary of the Action Democratic Party
(ADP), while speaking to African Drum
Immediately after an emergency meeting convened by the Plateau State Acting
Chairman of the party, Hon Gideon Adamu Today at the party Secretariat Utonkon
road Jos.
According to him, “we have the
people behind us because there is no difference between the PDP and the APC.
The people have rejected them for other parties especially the ADP, which is
the credible alternative. We have also proven that we have a different agenda
and manifesto and our constitution is also different. Some of the parties have
tried to copy our system of direct primary but they implemented it half way”.
Gyang, who is also a member of the
national working committee of the party further said that the emergency meeting
became necessary for the party to deliberate on issues and put the party in a
good position towards the 2019 general elections which the party is fielding
candidates for, adding that “we need to strategize before the kick-off of the
campaigns next month”.
On how prepared is the party for
the next elections, he said since the party was registered almost two years
ago, its activities have been going on across the country stressing that they
were well prepared.
“Here on the Plateau, we also
contested in the local government elections. We fielded four chairmanship
candidates and 18 candidates for councillorship, but everybody knows how the
outcome of that election was which was for below expectation in the delivery of
election. However, that has woken us and we have tightened our belt properly
towards the general elections”. He said
Other issues discussed in the
meeting according to him, was how to raise enough funds and campaign materials
as well as putting the right people in the right positions to contest the
election. He also called for a level playing ground for all to ensure free,
fair and credible elections.
