Lalong shows solidarity with journalists but caution against professional misconduct and spreading of fake news

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State says he and his administration are in solidarity with journalists as the world commemorates as the world commemorates the "International Day to End Impunity and Crime against Journalists, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has said that his administration was in solidarity with journalists. 

In a message by the Commissioner of Information and Communication Yakubu Dati the Governor explained the strategic importance of journalists in the socio - economic and political well being of the society, a development that has earned the media the status and are being referred to  as  members of the fourth estate. 

This he said is because journalists serve as nexus of all spheres of human endeavor bringing information and   knowledge of happenings around the world to people.
 Lalong further appreciated the great sacrifice of journalists as they sometimes work in difficult environments with some paying the supreme price adding that he was in league with all people of good will to fight impunity against journalists.

He assured his administration will continue to provide the enabling environment for a free press to thrive but however cautioned against professional misconduct and the spread of fake news. The Governor commended the national body of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for creating an insurance policy for its members and urged all journalists to key in.
