Adjourns case

The hearing of the case between
Senator Jonah David Jang versus the Federal Republic of Nigeria slated for
continuation today after taking two witnesses yesterday was however, adjourned
to December.
The adjournment was necessitated by
the ill-health of the defendant and the doctor’s recommendation that he needed
some days to recuperates.
Robert Clark (SAN) counsel to the
defendant told the court that the defendant was rushed to hospital this morning
as a result of high blood pressure and high sugar level adding that he was at
the hospital this morning before coming to court and also had a brief
discussion with the defendant’s doctor who informed him that effort was being
made to reduce the blood and sugar level, but that the defendant must remain in
the hospital for some days to enable them arrest the situation.
Consequently, counsel apologized to
the court for the inability of the defendant to be available in court due to
the circumstance adding that the medical report was before the lordship and
asked for an adjournment.
Responding, prosecution counsel
Rotimi Jacobs said though the medical report was from a private hospital issued
today, nothing in it suggested that the defendant was rushed to the hospital
today but yesterday. Counsel added that the report attributed the rise in blood
level to stress which the defendant had exposed himself to and advised that he
should go and have some rest and not on admission as stated by his counsel
saying that he saw no reason why he wasn’t in court.
He however, did not object to the
adjournment. Consequently, Justice Daniel Longji adjourned the matter to 4th,
5th 6th and 7th of December, 2018 for
continuation of hearing.
Recall that Jang and one other
person are being accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC) for alleged misappropriation of funds to the tune of N6.5 billion naira
when he was governor of Plateau State.
