Nigerian
Senate President, and Presidential Aspirant on the platform of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) Bukola Saraki has called on Nigerians to elect a
President that has foresight and is vibrant, active, agile and creative so as
to match with the global trend of qualitative leadership.
Saraki
made this statement in Jos while addressing PDP State EXCO, delegates and stakeholders
during his nationwide tour ahead the Party primaries scheduled for this month.
The
Aspirant said Nigeria has never been so divided before as it is during the
current administration. In the light of this, Saraki said the country needs a
leader that would unite the people by giving equal treatment to all
irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliations.
He
decried the way and manner people are killed on daily basis adding that
citizens were no longer safe in their ancestral lands. Saraki said that he is
that person that person that would give purposeful leadership and take the
country to an enviable heights and the pride of all. He stated that he has what
it takes to govern this country having been a Governor for eight years (and
Chairman of the Governors’ Forum) and currently, President of the Senate.
“Nigeria
needs a leader that it can be proud of. Somebody that is conversely, somebody
that can stand for what is right. Somebody that would protect you irrespective
of your background, somebody that will make things happen. Nigeria needs a
digital leader with vision and foresight so as to key into the new order
globally. I want to tell you that I am that person. I stand for what is right
and with your support, we can achieve our aims. I will make sure I protect you”
said Saraki.
He
further said that the PDP is one big family and all the presidential aspirants
were working in harmony stressing that the period is a big opportunity for the
North Central to produce the next President and, advised against the misuse of
the golden opportunity.
Responding,
Hon. D.T. Sango, the State Chairman of the PDP commended him for his
doggedness, courage and boldness which according to him have earned him
popularity and acceptability across the country.
“When
you left the APC, the party fell like pack of cards. You have also brought life
into the PDP and the party is set to take over power in 2019” Sango said.
The
Party Chairman further acknowledged the fact that there are three aspirants
from the North Central for the presidency but added that “we would advice at
the right time to ensure that North Central only produced one candidate to go
for the general election”.
There
were goodwill messages from many stakeholders including Sir Fidelis Tapgun (former
Governor of Plateau State), Senator Jeremiah Useni (Senator representing
Plateau South Senatorial District in the National Assembly) among others.
