Plateau South Senatorial District: Sponsored protest succeeded in promoting Tallen – Media aide

Shabul Mazadu, one of the media aides to Her Excellency, Pauline Tallen has maintained that the protest that greeted her in Shendam during her tour to advance the course of her senatorial ambition was sponsored. He however said that to the utter disappointment of the sponsors, it has rather promoted her rather than ridiculing and dent her image as witnessed in the large turnout of delegates and stakeholders during her tour in the zone.

Speaking to some journalists who sought clarification on the issue in Jos on Monday, Mazadu observed that the youths who engaged in the unholy act were sponsored by cowards who nursed the erroneous feeling that Mrs Tallen’s senatorial ambition could jeopardize Lalong’s chances of second tenure.

On his conviction that the protest was sponsored by Governor Lalong he said that from the inscription on the ply card, Lalong may not be involved directly but through his foot soldiers.
On the perception of some observers who have also opined that the political rift between Tallen and Governor Lalong may cause division in the presidency as President Muhammadu Buhari and the First Lady Aisha both have soft spots for them, Shabul said, Tallen is not fighting anybody not even Lalong.

He stated that both the President and the First Lady were in support of the United Nations declaration on ceding one-third of elective positions to women as well as the affirmative action following the Beijing Declaration in 2005 stating that in line with the above, every State ought to have at least a female Senator out of the three.

According to him, “At least in every State of the Federation, there should be one female Senator going by the Federal Government affirmation in support of the Beijing 2005 Conference and the UN declaration of ceding one-third of elective positions to women. And among all the female politicians in Plateau State, there is none like Mrs Tallen taking into account her wealth of experience and her connection both within and outside Nigeria. So, if given the mandate, it’s not just Shendam or Southern Senatorial District that stand to benefit but the entire Plateau State. I must say this again and clearly that Dame Pauline Tallen is neither fighting nor competing with anybody, rather, she is out to represent the women folk.”

On whether her ambition would not portray the Gocmai nation as selfish, taking into account that she once turned down ambassadorial appointment on account of coming from the same ethnic stock with the Governor, Shabul said that her main reason for turning down the ambassadorial appointment was to take care of her husband who was sick. Continuing, he said, “that was a political appointment which had nothing to do with gender as in the case of the current situation. Mrs Tallen is the frontliner of the women folk. She has been working hard for the women in Plateau and Nigeria. By her current decision, she is encouraging women to participate in politics. The President and the First lady all have voiced out their total support and encouragement for women participation in politics and it is expected that nobody becomes a stumbling block to achieving this noble aim.”

Mazadu further called for proper political awareness, the lack of which according to him, led some people to be allowed to be used by selfish politicians for dirty jobs just like what happened in Shendam.
