The Nigeria
Union of Journalists (NUJ) Plateau State Council has asked the Chairman of the
Peoples Democratic Party PDP in the state to prevail on the state publicity secretary
of the Party Hon, John T Akans to desist from insulting journalists and to also
cease from defrauding them. The Union stated this in a letter to the leadership
of the party drawing its attention on the misconduct and ill treatment of the
Publicity Secretary against journalists in the state.
The union
further state that before now, it had written the party to formally introduce
the leadership of the Union and, indeed, journalists on the Plateau but the
Publicity Secretary flagrantly refused to recognize or work with the Council
adding that it has also received many complaints of his misconduct, ill
treatment and denigrating remarks against Journalists.
It said that
it has it on good authority that Akans has been denying journalists what was
due to them and calling them names such as 'hungry journalists' stressing that
he has also adopted a strange pattern of divide and rule thereby, causing friction
among members of the union for reasons
best known to him.
Consequently,
the union advised that the Publicity Secretary be called to order to avoid a
breakdown of the long standing good relationship that has existed between
journalists and the PDP.
