Generator Ban In Nigeria, Sellers To Face 10Years Imprisonment. Meet Senator Sponsoring The Bill.

(born September 7, 1959) is a Nigerian Politician, He is the Senator representing Niger South Senatorial District of Niger State at the 9th National Assembly. He is a member of the All Progressive Congress,
under which he won his election to become a Senator.
The Senate onWednesday March 11,2020sat and read for the first time in the year, the bill proposing the ban of generator importations in Nigeria and also proposing 10years jail term for importers and sellers alike. It has passed its first reading. Senator Muhammad Bima Enagi
is the sponsorer of the bill.

The country currently generates4000MGWTSof electricity but distributes 3000MGWTSfor a population of almost 200millionpeople. A copy of the bill which was obtained by The Cablesstates anybody who sells or imports generator into the country risks being imprisoned for 10years.

It added that all persons' involved in using generating sets that usesdiesel/fuel/keroseneshould desist from its usage with immediate effect. The bill however exempts generating sets used for essential purposes/services. It defines "essential services" to include medical centres (hospital, nursing homes and health care facilities), airports and railway station services.

Essential Services includes also, elevators, escalators, research institutions and such facilities that requires 24hours power supplies.
