ALGON Chairman, Volgap commends Operation Safe Haven for organizing youth summit, promises similar forum at various LGAs in Plateau state.

The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments in Nigeria who also is the executive Chairman of Mikang Local Government Council,  Plateau state North Central Nigeria, Hon. Ezekiel Volgap has commended Operation Safe Haven, ( the Task Force responsible for peace in Jos) currently under the command of Major General C. C Agundu for organizing the “Plateau Youth Summit”.
The youth summit which was held at the Hill Station Hotel, Tudun Wada Jos on Wednesday, is the second edition in the series with the theme: "Building Plateau youths today to take up the challenges tomorrow".
Speaking to African Drum at the occasion, the ALGON Chairman expressed optimism that the gains derived from the summit would definitely have positive impact in the attitude of the youths. He said that there would be a replication of the summit across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state. “Honesty speaking, we quite appreciate the convener of this summit, Operation Safe Haven for organizing this historic event.
“You can see the turn-up of the youths for the summit having realized the importance and significance of peace to every society because without peace, we cannot achieve any meaningful development and that is the essence of this summit.

“And you can also see the passion in the Commandant of Operation Safe Haven, Major Gen. C. C Agundu and other speakers as they preach the message of peace.
 “I believe that having listened to all the speakers, the thinking of all the youths who attended this summit will never remain the same even as they returned to their various communities in various local government areas.
 “On our part, we would ensure that we equally organized similar summits for the youths in our various local government areas of the state because the youths are at the centre and they can be used to either cause trouble or make peace", said the ALGON Chairman.
Also speaking to African Drum, the executive Chairman of Quan' Pan local government, Hon. Isaac Kwallu also commended Operation Safe Haven for what he called great initiatives stressing that his local government will key in easily having realized the importance and the need for peace without which there can never be any meaningful development. Kwallu stated that the summit was keyed and well timed taking into cognizance the period which is end of the year and like what has been the practice, some people would probably want to take the law into their hands using the youths as willing tools. He further called on the youths to desist from acts that are inimical to the positive development and progress of our society.

His Langtang South counterpart, Hon. Rims Nimchan also applauded the initiative of the Operation Safe Haven stressing that participants from his local government area were highly reoriented adding that, that would go a long way in affecting the attitude and behavior of the youths in Langtang South Local government area positively.
This year youth summit is said to have a minimum of 10 youths from each local government of the 17 in the state.
