The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Plateau state chapter has called on the citizens of the state to guide against misinterpretation of a Supreme Court Judgment on the evidence of a witness during hearing in a petition filed by General Jeremiah Useni and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jos. The PDP Legal Team had challenged the judgment of the Court of Appeal Jos which had overruled the decision of the lower Tribunal allowing Petitioners witness who was not listed in the Petition to testify during the trial and the Supreme Court granted the prayers of the Legal Team for PDP on Thursday.

However, the APC in the state observed that there was a deliberate misinterpretation of the judgment by overzealous elements aimed at misleading the people of the state in general and its supporters in particular. A statement signed by the Secretary of the Party in the state, Bashir Musa Sati Esq, stated that the judgment does not mean victory to the PDP or its candidate as being speculated stressing that it only means the statement of that PDP witness will be considered and the APC lawyers be allowed to cross examine him on his testimony to test its veracity. The statement read in parts:

“The attention of APC in Plateau State has been drawn to a deliberate misinterpretation of the recent Supreme Court judgement allowing the State Gubernatorial Election Tribunal to make use of the evidence of the PDP and itscandidate in the last election despite the fact that the witness was not listed among those to testify as required by law.
This does not mean any victory to PDP or it's candidate at the Tribunal as some overzealous elements bent on misleading their supporters are speculating. It only means the statement of that PDP witness will be considered and our lawyers be allowed to cross examine him on his testimony to test its veracity. So there is no course for any concern.
“With this we call on our teaming supporters and good people of Plateau State to remain calm and law abiding as their mandate is still intact and nothing will temper with it by the Grace of God.
We remain confident of victory at the Tribunal which will serve as added tonic for the APC and Lalong administration to continue the good work we have been doing in putting our dear state back on the map of first generation states in the country”.
