The inaugural sitting of the
Plateau Gubernatorial Tribunal was held on Tuesday at High Court 7, West of
Mines, venue of the tribunal with the Chairman of the 3-member panel Justice
Halima Salmat assuring parties that the tribunal will not comprised.
Justice Salmat noticed that the
duty placed on the panel was sensitive and heavy, consequently, he solicited
for the support and cooperation of counsels and other parties to enable panel
dispense justice to all.
Responding, the Plateau State
Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice Hon. Chrysantus Ahmadu welcomed
the Panel to Jos and assured it of a peaceful stay in the home of peace and
tourism stressing that indeed the atmosphere now is good for the tribunal to
discharge its duty.
He wondered why politicians don’t
accept defeat after elections adding that even when they approach the tribunal
and whichever way justice goes, politicians would always complain. The
Commissioner hoped that a day would come when after conducting free, fair and
credible elections, the loser would accept defeat.
In his contribution, the Chairman
of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Jos Branch, Yakubu J. Bawa promised the
Panel of the Bar’s total and unalloyed support to enable it discharge its
assignment.
