Hon. Shekarau |
PLATEAU GUBER RACE: I HAVE WHAT IT TAKES
TO HIT THE TARGET- SHEKARAU

A
Governorship aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
in Plateau State Hon. Johnbull Tiemlong Shekarau has urged delegates for the to shun money bags during the September party
primaries and go for the best candidate so as to hit the target successfully.
Shekarau
made this statement today at the PDP state secretariat along Yakubu Gowon way
after picking his nomination form.
He
said that if the PDP doesn’t want to regret the way it did in 2015, it should
field the best candidate because according to him, contesting the governorship
shouldn’t be an attempt but a total effort aimed at hitting the target because
if the target is not hit, it would be a total lose as there would be no consolation
prices.
For
this reason, Shekarau advised the party and delegates to elect a person who is
a strong loyalist of the party and of a good character and proven integrity to
salvage the state.
Shakarau
who is the current member representing, Shendam, Mikang , Quan-Pan federal
constituency in the National Assembly added that he considered himself having
enough experience having worked in all the three arms of government, more so, being
a strong and dedicated party loyalist, stressing that it would be a serious
mistake to give the leadership of the state to an apprentice who is not
conversant with the art of governance.
The aspirant
stated that he has served in the House of Assembly and occupied the office of
Deputy Speaker and now a member of the National Assembly adding that he has
also worked in the Security Department for eleven years; consequently, he
believed he has the needed experience to deliver Plateau State and take it to
the next level.
Shekarau
further stated that the issue of zoning is already engraved in the minds of
Plateau people and advised that it should not be distorted to avoid having
problems. Consequently, he observed that the zoning of the governorship should
remain in Shendam so that people would continue to have faith in the party.
He
said he would never used foul language against any of his co-aspirants and
urged them to follow suit to avoid given the opposition what they can use
against the party and who ever that might emerge as flag bearer after the
primary elections. Shakarau said as far as he was concerned, he considered the
primary election as a family affairs and it would be wrong for family members
to wash their dirty linens in public.
Responding,
the state party chairman, Hon. D.T. Sango confirmed Shakarau’s loyalty to the
party saying that he has always been of great assistance to it. The chairman
promised a level play ground for all aspirants because according to him, “the
era of imposition is gone.” He advised the aspirants to work hard by reaching
out to delegates across the 17 local governments in the state.
