The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Plateau state chapter has accused the Lalong led administration in the state of recruiting members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to take over the duties of the state electoral body, the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, PLASIEC during the re-scheduled local Government elections.

This revelation was made this afternoon by the state chairman of the PDP, Hon. Damashi T Sango when he played host to Rt Hon. George Daika, one of the Governorship aspirant at the party secretariat situated along Yakubu Gowon express way. He said the Governor out of desperation was bent on causing another crisis in the state.

According to Sango, “Already we have information that they are not going to use PLASIEC officials. They are going to replace them and give their duties to APC members. They are busy recruiting APC members as presiding officers and others. I want to warn that this state is tired of crises. The atmosphere is polluted by the spirit of desperation. We have to warn that the desperation of Local Government Election should not lead us to another round of crisis in the state. We will not accept anything short of transparent Local Government elections”.

The PDP chairman called on members of the party, most especially aspirants to consider the issue of Local Government elections as a collective responsibility stressing that what the APC intended doing was a litmus test for 2019 and further urged them to fight vigorously against any manipulation during the council polls.

Hon D T Sango
“You should know that the issue of Local Government elections is a collective responsibility of party members and especially aspirants because, if they manipulate us during the Local Government elections, they will now have agents to use in 2019 to manipulate the 2019 general elections against us. So, it’s something we must all come out and fight and make sure nobody manipulates us during the election. Those of you who are very close to those in power should advise them not to push us to another round of crisis in the state.” He said.

Sango said another issue the PDP discovered was that the Lalong led Government has also concluded plans to cite insecurity to conduct the polls in less than ten Local Government.

“In the North-East, in 2015 despite the crisis in the zone, elections were still conducted by INEC. We don’t want anybody to hide under security to disenfranchise our people. If they could use 30,000 security personnel in Ekiti, we need just 5,000 here in Plateau State for the Local Government Election”. Said Sango.
