Hon. Chindo Gona |
BASSA LOCAL GOVERNMENT
CHAIRMANSHIP RACE: GONA PICKS FORM, SAYS HE’S MOVED WITH PASSION TO SERVE.

Tuesday, 24 October,
2017.
Hon.
Chindo Gona said the desire to truly and sincerely serve his people by offering
credible, transparent and purposeful leadership is what prompted him into contesting
the chairmanship position of Bassa Local Government.
Gona
said this in an exclusive chat with African
Drum on Monday immediately after
picking his nomination form. He said Bassa local government is one of the
oldest in the state but has not witnessed the desired development despite its
abundant human and natural resources. Gona who is contesting under the platform
of the All Progressive Congress (APC) hinted that if given the mandate, he will
maintain constant dialogue with all ethnic nationalities in the local
government to ensure a harmonious and peaceful relationship to pave way for
proper development.
The
former member representing Pengana constituency in the Plateau state House of
Assembly further stressed that he would definitely involve the people in the
development programmes so as to meet up their priorities. “Development is a two
way affair involving the government on one hand and the beneficiary communities
on the other. It is for this reason that the intending beneficiaries of
whatever project must be fully involved in it otherwise, the aim would be
defeated”. He said.
Gona
said that he would concentrate on those projects and programmes that have
direct bearing on the lives of the people at the grass root which is the main
reason why the local government system was established. Consequently, he said
adequate attention would be given to Primary Health Care, Agricultural Extension
programmes. He also said that construction of feeder roads and the expansion of
the existing ones among others would be his topmost priority.
The
aspirant added that because the subvention from the federation account to
states and local governments now is meagre owing to dwindling and fall in oil
revenues, his administration would surely strengthen the revenue base of the
local government and further look inward to tap from the abundant resources of
the Local Government for self-sustenance.
He
called on all ethnic nationalities in the local government to tow the path of
peace because according to him, “towing the path of peace and tranquillity is
virile and non-negotiable if we must move ahead”
He
reiterated his respect for other aspirants in the APC saying that “all of them
are qualified for the position and I believe that their intention is also for
the good of our land”. He further urged his supporters to be civil, courteous
and peaceful in their approaches “bearing in mind that our campaign is issue
based taking into cognisance our philosophy”. He said.
On
why the choose the APC as a platform, he said it is a party that does not
support acts of impunity and imposition but believes in fairness and justice
and further expressed his optimism that these key elements would be observed
during the party primaries.
