Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, PDP Gubernatorial candidate Plateau

Governorship Candidate of the PDP in Plateau, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has put pen to paper and given his word of honour to lead his campaign train in peace throughout the state.

A statement by Yiljap Abraham, Director, Directorate of Media and Publicity Atiku-Okowa Mutfwang-Piyo Campaign CouncilPlateau State stated that Mutfwang made the pledge  at a Townhall Meeting jointly hosted by the University of Jos and the Hausa Service of the Voice of America (VOA) on Wednesday at the auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University.

The meeting, according to the statement, also featured governorship candidates of the ADC, APC, PRP, SDP and APGA who equally signed up a peace pact in the presence of hundreds of people who showed up for the Townhall Meeting.

The pledge required that the candidates, their parties and supporters run “issue-based campaigns, and avoid ethnic, religious and regional incitement.”

The candidates also gave their word to have mutual respect for each other, not to use abusive language or issue false statements and to avoid violence and election manipulation.

They have also undertaken to challenge the election verdict only “transparently, legally and peacefully” but to accept the final decision of the appeal process “as the will of the people.”

Barr. Mutfwang is also said to have told his audience that “I am a democrat to the core,  and I am a team player also. I have lost elections before,  and I have also won elections.” He said he had been gracious in defeats and magnanimous in victory.

“However, If there is any infraction on due process, we will use the instrumentality of the law to challenge  it.”

He said he will provide the leadership that is required to govern with equity, justice, inclusiveness and giving a voice to the voiceless such as disadvantaged groups – women, children and People Living With Disabilities.

Mutfwang also said he will exercise political will in handling the reports of the various commissions of inquiry and Committees set up by successive administrations.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof Tanko Ishaya is said to have invited the Candidates to consider partnership with the university as a major centre for solutions delivery in governance projects and services rather than looking up to foreign nations.

Director,  Centre for Conflict Management and Peace Studies, Prof Danny McCain is also said to have appealed to the candidates and politicians generally to see Nigeria as the greater picture, and therefore conduct themselves in the most peaceful manner.
