The much awaited date for the conduct of Bye-Election for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency has finally been declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday.

According to the Electoral Umpire, the Bye-Election is scheduled for February 26, 2022. In the light of this, INEC is set to release its time table for the said excercise later today or tomorrow 14th January, 2022.
An official in the Public Elightenment Department of the Commission told African Drum that the date for the Bye-Election was sacrosanct. He however said he wasn't in the position to explain why it has taken the Commission this long to finally set a date for the excercise.

The seat became vacant after the demise of its occupant, Hon. Haruna Maitala (Turakin Jere) on April 02, 2021 in an auto crash on his way to Jos from Abuja.
Over 30 aspirants from Jos North and Bassa Local Government Areas have since declared interests for the seat.
