The menace of marauding herdsmen is yet to be nipped, even though the government recently claimed the attacks by some of the them have reduced drastically.
The early morning Thursday attack on Mbanyiar community in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State clearly states the opposite.
The herdsmen invaded the agrarian community in the early hours of the morning and unleashed terror.
They, as Punch reported , raped three women among whom is the wife of the town's district head.
They went ahead to destroy bans and crops. They reportedly arrived the community and went straight to the traditional ruler's house and unleashed mayhem.
The traditional, Tyoor Chado, said they numbered over 11 and arrived around 2am. They, according to him, beyond raping and destroying crops also tortured as many members of the community as they could lay their hands on.
herdsmen also looted the community. They left with crops like Melon, Cassava.
This is the umpteenth time Benue communities are being attacked. The attacks at some point effected the prices of foodstuffs in the market as farmers who are scattered across the state didn’t feel safe to go their farms anymore.
