The Plateau State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria {CAN} has acknowledged the presence of the Covid-19 in the country and sympathized with other countries that are badly affected and further prayed that the Almighty comfort families that have lost their loved ones, healing to those infected and those quarantined. In a statement, the State Chairman of the Association, Rev. Dr. Soja Bewarang stated thus, “We join in prayers that our true God of hope will fill us with joy and peace as we trust in him in the face of the challenging circumstances of the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19). Anything that has a beginning will have an end and in between we will love and hold on to our God”.

The Christian body in the state also appreciated the positive and proactive measures taken by both the Federal and Plateau Governments to prevent the spread of the virus stressing that in view of the threatening nature of the epidemic that has resulted to the shut down of major activities worldwide, it called on Church leaders not to take the threat lightly and ensured they give Proper enlightenment and necessary precautionary measures to members in churches.

CAN further appealed to Church leaders to ensure that at least, 10 minutes moment be given to a Medical Doctor/relevant health professional who is knowledgeable on the issue to enlighten members on preventative measures adding that where possible, two specific health professionals or elders should be engaged and to be contacted should a member be suspected to have signs and symptoms of the virus.
CAN further urged Church leaders to advise members on the danger of posting or forwarding false and misleading messages on social media that may further complicate matters and avoid same.

It added that Sanitizers must be deliberately used at the entrances of worship and meeting places knowing that prevention is cheaper than cure and that family hygiene be adhered to and especially at Sunday school.
The body stated that Sunday worship shouldn't be unnecessarily long and crowded and called upon churches to pray in small groups for God's intervention to prevent further spread and end the epidemic
