The Anaguta Community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State North Central Nigeria has called on Government to enact a law against land grabbing. Briefing newsmen on Monday over an attack on Ubyal - Ayimah village close to University of Jos Hostel by hoodlums two days ago, the National President of the Anaguta Youth Movement (AYM), Deacon Moses Dawang accused the Hausa community over the attack saying it was calculated attempt towards land grabbing.

Dawang said that members of the community were going about their normal activities when a group of Hausa hoodlums decided to attack their community in the guise of protesting the demarcation of land by the authority of the University of Jos stressing that as far as the Anaguta community was concerned as host community, it was aware that the University of Jos has legitimately and properly acquired every land it is situated upon.
"As we are all aware, the Anaguta are the aborigines of Jos North and the host community of all the land housing University of Jos, thereby making Anaguta the host community of the prestigious institution.

As a community, we are aware that the university of Jos has legitimately and properly acquired every land it is situated upon", says Dawang.
He said that the Anaguta were in full support of the demarcation exercise and further encouraged the authorities of the University and Government to continue the demarcation of all their legitimate lands in other to secure and protect Government properties against land grabbers, speculators and hoodlums who were bent on taking advantage of the University land that is not fenced.
Continuing, Deacon Dawang said, " Anaguta community is aware that University of Jos has acquired the land in question and has proper documents to that effect from B. P. E and has every right to use such lands as deem fit. Any individual or group of persons that have any issue with  University of Jos acquisition of any land should follow legal means of addressing his or their grievances rather than resulting to self help which will lead to breakdown of law and order. As a community, we all know that no one is above the law, so there is every need for security agencies to be decisive in dealing with the people that have repeatedly attack the management of the University of Jos whenever they embark on visit to their land".

He called on government to urgently reach out to the Anaguta community as it has suffered lost as a result of the attack on Saturday that led to the destruction of houses and Churches.
