The state Executive Committee (SEC)
of the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau state has called on the members of
the Plateau State House of Assembly to desist from further extension of tenure
of Management Committee members in four Local Government Areas in Northern Zone
of Plateau state.
Speaking to press
men after the SEC meeting on Thursday, the state chairman of the PDP, Hon. Amos
Gombi said that the SEC frowned at the continued existence of illegal
management committees in 4 Local Government Areas of Northern zone of Plateau
state.
“It is obvious
that within a short time, the Plateau state House of Assembly would renew the
tenure of local government chairmen in four of the local governments in
Northern zone of Plateau state. It is illegal," said Gombi. The chairman
called on all spirited individuals and lovers of democracy to rise up against
the illegal act. He specifically told Governor Simon Lalong that the people of
the zone were fed up and cannot continue to live with illegality. “That as a
matter of urgency, the Plateau State House of Assembly should not further renew
the tenure of the chairmen in these local government Areas," Gombi said.
He further called
on the electoral umpire, the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (
PLASIEC) to swing into action immediately and conduct elections in the affected
local government Areas to enable their people enjoy the dividends of democracy
too. The four local governments in Plateau North Senatorial District still
under Management Committees are; Jos North, Jos South, Riyom and BarkinLadi
Local government councils respectively.
