Jos: 6 Arraign in court for kidnapping

Inusa Yahaya, Rabiu Jibrin, Abdullahi Mohammed, Nuhu Mohammed, Sale Suleiman and Lawal Saidu were arraigned before Justice Christine Dabu of High Court 4 sitting in Jos on 4 court charge bordering on kidnapping, rape and extortion contrary to sections 59(1) of the Plateau State penal code Law 2018; 245, (1), (2) and (3) of the Plateau State Penal Code Law 2018; 251(1) of the Plateau State Penal code law 2018 and 276 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law 2018.

          When the case with file number PLP/1577c/2019 was called, the 4 court charges were equally read out to the accused as follows;
“That you InusaYahaya (M), RabiuJibrin (M), Abdullahi Mohammed (M), Nuhu Mohammed (M), Sale Sulaiman (M) and LawalSaidu (M) in company of Mr. SamailaAdamu (deceased) one Mr. Sule (surname unknown) who is still at large on or about 6th March, 2019 at Rantya Jos South L.G.A. of Plateau State, within the Plateau Judicial Division, agreed amongst yourselves and committed the offences of kidnapping, rape and extortion against the acts which were done in pursuance of your said agreement. Leah L. Zockwa, and Miss HadizaDanladi all of Rantya, Jos South L.G.A. Plateau State within the jurisdiction of this court.

“That you InusaYahaya, RabiuJibrin , Abdullahi Mohammed , Nuhu Mohammed , Sale Sulaiman  and LawalSaidu or about the 6th March, 2019 in company of Mr. SamailaAdamu (deceased) and one Mr. Sule (surname unknown) who is still at large 2019 at Rantya Area of Jos South L.G.A. committed an act of kidnapping in that, you forcefully and abducted one Miss Leah I. Zokwa and HadizaDanladi all of Rantya Jos South L.G.A. within the jurisdiction of this court to unknown destination for a period of time until ransom demanded by you were paid to youbefore you released them.
“That you InusaYahaya , RabiuJibrin , Abdullahi Mohammed , Nuhu Mohammed , Sale Sulaiman  and LawalSaidu on or about the 6th March, 2019 in company of Mr. SamailaAdamu (deceased) and one Mr. Sule (surname unknown) who is still at large forcefully raped Misses Leah I. ZokwaHadizaDanladi of Rantiya Jos South L.G.A. Plateau State within Plateau Judicial Division.
“That you InusaYahaya,RabiuJibrin, Abdullahi Mohammed, Nuhu Mohammed, Sale Sulaiman and LawalSaidu on or about the 6th March, 2019 in company of Mr. SamailaAdamu (deceased) and one Mr. Suleiman (surname unknown) who is still at large extorted the parents of Leah I. ZokwaDanladi of Rantiya, Jos South L.G.A. Plateau State in the sum of N 2,130,000 with the Judicial Division, thereby committed the offence of Extortion”.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges, consequently, prosecution counsel, G N Azi, Principal State Counsel, Ministry of Justice Jos, told the court that since the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges, he should be given more time to prove their guilt and further asked that the accused be remanded in prison custody till the adjourned date. However, counsel to the defenders, A A Umar applied for the bail of the accused.  In the light of this, the court adjourned till July 24, 2019 to hear the bail application.
