The Chairman of Association of Local Government of Nigeria
(ALGON) Plateau State Chapter, and Chairman of Mikang Local Government Council,
Hon. Ezekiel Volgap said that local governments still operate joint account.
Volgap made this revelation on Friday in Jos while answering questions from
Journalists on the issue.
According to Volgap, “I think there is a misconception on
this. The NFIU is not saying the allocation should come straight to Local
Governments from Federalism Account. No. The Joint Account still stands. We
still operate the joint account. What NFIU is saying is that, the joint account
is just a collation centre for onward distribution to various Local Governments.
What the NFIU is saying in essence is that when the funds come to the collation
centre, it shouldn’t be touch by anybody and the money should move as it comes
straight to various Local Governments|".
The Chairman noted that why the policy is yet to commenced
is because as a new law, the state government is still studying it, stressing
that when it is finally implemented it would be the best thing that would have
happened to this country. On the anticipated cabinet in Plateau State, he
observed that Governor Lalong was taking his time to come up with the best
hands to help implement the policies of his administration.
“It is not going to be business as usual. He is going to
bring on board good hands that would help on implementing the policies and
programmes of his administration. The council boss further observed that the
Governor was going to make his choice on the cabinet members based on their
capacity, credibility and integrity". He called on the people of the state to
exercise patience because Governor Lalong meant well for the state and he would
ensure that he assembled the best to help implement his programmes.
Great job
