State Ministry of Justice takes over prosecution

Hearing
into the alleged killing of General Mohammed Alkali (rtd) by some natives of Du
District in Jos LGA continued today at the High Court 5, Jos.
When
the case file was called, Director of Public Prosecution, DT Yompyen told the
court that he has an oral application pursuant to the power of the
Attorney-General of Plateau State which is to the effect that he should appear
and takeover the matter pursuant to section 211 of the 1999 Constitution of the
Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and section 120 of the Administration of
Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).
He
also told the court that he was aware that there was a new application before
the court seeking for the amendment of earlier charges and another application
for the bail of the accused. In the light of this, DPP prayed the court to
grant him time to enable him go through the file. Consequently, the DPP sought
for the approval of the application to take over prosecution from the Nigerian
Police.
Justice
Daniel Longji granted the application and adjourned the matter to 17th
December 2018 for hearing of the applications for amendment of charges and for
the bail of the accused.
Recall
that 19 persons were arraigned in court in October this year for their alleged
involvement in the killing of General Mohammed Alkali (rtd).
