The Plateau
state government said that it is intensifying collaboration with security
agencies to bring to an end attacks on communities by criminal elements that
are bent on taking the state back to the dark days.
State
commissioner of Information and Communication Yakubu Dati in a statement
commiserating with the people of Foron particularly, Abonong where 8 people
were killed and many houses burnt as confirmed by the police conveyed the deep
sympathy of Governor Simon Lalong to the victims including the Church of Christ
in Nations (COCIN) that lost a priest and members of his family to the heinous
attack.
Dati said Governor
Lalong has directed security agencies to leave no stone on unturned in ensuring
that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are brought to justice.
He recalled
various peace initiatives being put in place by the Governor to ensure lasting peace in the state, the
latest being the just ended Northern Region Christian Association of Nigeria
summit in Jos.
The
government explained the review of the criminal justice act in the state is to
ensure criminals are tried in the state.
The
commissioner stated that the Governor appreciated COCIN for providing sanctuary
for some IDPs as well as other organizations for their role in bringing succour
to victims of conflict.
The
statement implores citizens not to give up on the State's cherished values of
peace and hospitality and urged them to avoid taking laws into their hands when
provoked but collaborate with security agents to prevent any brake down of law
and order but to bring criminal elements to justice.
