The
Plateau State Government has condemned what it called ill-informed reactions
which followed recent comments by Governor Simon Bako Lalong on a Television
programme on the State Government’s Ranching policy. A statement signed by the
Plateau State Commissioner of Information and Communication, Yakubu Dati and a
copy made available to African Drum stated that the Governor in the interview
which the mischief emanated only called attention to the absence of grazing
routes and functional grazing reserves because of increase in population and
other consequences of development.
According
to the statement, “The attention of the Plateau State Government been drawn to
the impulsive, ill-informed reactions which followed comments by His
Excellency, Governor Simon Lalong on the State Government’s ranching Policy
“Government’s
position on this touching issue has been tempered by an aggregate of interests
that seek the common good. We recall series of consultations and stakeholders’
meetings which produced the blue print for the state government’s ranching
policy and submit it conveys the legitimate aspirations of the people”.
The
statement further calls on citizens of the state to protect the gains so far
recorded in the peace building process and resist the temptation of falling for
the machinations of those who have made a career of destroying the good will
jointly built by the Lalong administration and concerned people of the state.
