Report reaching us indicates that members of the State EXCO of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) are currently being interrogated at the headquarters of the Plateau State Police Command, Jos over the peaceful protest organized by the Association yesterday in Jos.

The said protest according to the organizers was to express their disenchantment over the incessant killings of innocent natives of Plateau State by suspected Fulani herdsmen with emphasis to the recent killings which occurred in about 11 villages in Barkin Ladi Local Government where it was reported that more than 200 people mostly women and children were massacred.

Miyetti Allah, a Fulani Heders Association through one of its leaders (Danladi Ciroma) is reported to have claimed responsibility for the pogrom.

Recall that African Drum reported yesterday how security operatives used live ammunition on the protesters in Government House, Jos and explained that they did the shooting but on the air to disperse the protesters who turned violent and started destroying properties.

Later in the day, the Director of Press Affairs to Governor Simon Bako Lalong, Emmanuel Nanle issued a statement in which it stated that government has already identified the sponsors of the protest and also declared its intention to bring them to account for what it called “unpatriotic conduct”.
All efforts to speak to the Police Public Relations Officer, Plateau State Command Mr Terna Mathias Tyopev on the matter proved abortive as he could only responded to our series of calls with a text message that he was in Barkin Ladi and promised to call later. However, he could not respond to our text message on the subject matter up to press time.

Our source said that those at the police headquarters are Rev. Nenman Isa Gowon, CAN Chairman, Northern Zone, Mrs. Rhoda Godwill Tahota, CAN Leader, Women Wing Plateau State, Pastor Agnes Fahmicit Lagang, Vice Chairman CAN Women Wing, Plateau State and many others.
