Information reaching us indicates that
Ambassador Yahaya Kwande may soon dump the All Progressive Congress (APC) to
the main opposition, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Kwande is a strong
political associate of Abubakar Atiku, the former vice President of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria who recently decamped to the PDP from the APC.
The former Nigerian Ambassador to
Australia and a founding member of the PDP is said to be instrumental to the
emergence of Rt Hon. Simon Bako Lalong as governor of Plateau State in 2015.
However, things are said to have fallen apart as the hitherto solid
relationship between the two went sour immediately Lalong assumed office as
governor.
The leaders up of the APC in the state is also said
to have stopped according him the deserved respect. The ugly trend is also said
to have reached its apogee last week when a close source to Kwande said the Elder Statesman was refused entry to the venue of a meeting of stakeholders of
the APC in the state on the excuse that his name was not in the list of invited
personalities. An aide of the ambassador was said to have described that
incident as the height of embarrassment orchestrated by irresponsible people.
Political pundits hold the view that the APC will suffer a heavy blow in the
event Ambassador Yahaya Kwande eventually moves to the PDP.
