The Labour Party (LP) has announced new dates for the conduct of Governoship and House of Assembly primaries in Plateau and other states to produce candidates for the 2023 general elections. This development, according to the party came following its receipt of withdrawal letters and affidavits in support of same from some of the candidates.
A statement by the National Chairman and National Secretary of the Party, Barr. Julius Abure and Alh. Umar Farouk Ibrahim respectively, gave the names of the states where the governoship primaries have been scheduled to hold on the 5th August 2022 as follows; Delta, Kano, Kaduna, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Kebbi and Plateau. Others are; Taraba, Zamfara, Lagos, Sokoto and Bauchi states.
The statement further gave the names of states where the House of Assembly primary elections would be conducted on the 6th of August, 2022 are as follows; Imo, Kaduna, Kogi, Kano, Lagos, Benue and Delta States. Other states include; Plateau, Osun, Kwara and Adamawa.
The letter which was addressed to the Chairman, National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), Zambezi Crescent, Maitala, Abuja and entitled, "Notice of withdrawal and date of Primaries" reads, "We forward herewith letters of withdrawal and affidavit in support of same from some of our candidates.
"From the contents of the letter, they informed us of their intentions to withdraw as candidates of the party.
"Accordingly, primaries of governoship will hold on the 5th of August, 2022. However, state Assembly primaries will hold 6th of August, 2022".
