FOREIGN NEWS; Did Vladimir Putin miscalculate the repercussions of invading Ukraine?

Vladimir Putin, Russian President

No doubt.. I am sure he thought there would be repercussions.

What he miscalculated was the resistance of Ukraine. Putin thought the war would would be over in two weeks, some sanctions would be imposed, and life would go on.

That was not the case. Ukraine has resisted the invasion and currently is winning the war. Russia has sustained great losses to their troops, navy and war materiel.

He miscalculated the response of the West who have rushed to Ukraine’s aid and provided her with war materiel to allow her to stay in the war.

He miscalculated the will of the Ukranian people to fight.

He miscalculated the skill and leadership of Zelenskyy. In a big way.

As the war approaches the 60 day mark the EU and West impose more and more sanctions. Morale is down in his troops.

Putin has had to start thinking about his own survival, physically and politically.

I think it is an understatement to say Putin miscalculated the repercussions. No doubt if he it to do over again he would not. But unfortunately he is committed.
