Hon. Abbey Joseph Aku on Friday won the All Progressive Congress APC re-run Primary election and now the party's flag bearer for the scheduled February 26, 2022 Bye-Election. The election, held at Prestige event centre Jebbu Bassa saw Abbey scoring 809 votes while Kwande scored 74 votes in absentia. Earlier this afternoon, Hon. Kwande issued a press statement stating that he was not aware of the re-run election today as he was not notified of it.
He also noted that based on the decision of the electoral Committee for a re-run after February 01 excercise which he believed he won, Kwande further stated in the press release that he has written a petition to the National Secretary, Caretaker/Extraordinary Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John James Apkanudoedehe, PhD was in possession of the acknowledgement copy and equally expecting the decision of the national office of the party regarding the petition.
Recall that during the primary earlier held on February 01, 2022, Abbey and Kwande recorded a tie scoring 344 votes each prompting the re-run election today.
