Maitala represented Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency from 2019 to 2021 before his demise in an auto crash on his way to Jos from Abuja on April 02, 2021. He is arguably adjudged to be the best representative of the Constituency since the advent of this democratic dispensation in 1999.

Consequently, his death was described by many as monumental lost to the Constituency but his son, Faisal rose to the occasion and proved to Constituents that indeed his father is no more, but his demise has not really created a vacuum as he took upon him to press forward to ensure the fullfiment of his late father's campaign promises which include empowerment of women and youth. He demonstrated this feat barely two months after the death of his father when the "Legacy projects" distributed Grinding, Pumping and Sewing machines and Motorcycles to over 400 beneficiaries.

Again, on Saturday 15th January, 2022 ( less than seven months after the Empowerment of over 400 Constituents), additional 200 Constituents benefited from the same items in continuation of the Legacy projects of Late Haruna Maitala Empowerment Program 2022 held at Zinariya Layout, Jos North Local Government Area.

Speaking to Journalists during the occasion, Faisal said that human development is a family philosophy which has been engraved in the mind of every family member and has become part of their everyday life. "This is the very reason why it was easy for me to continue where my late father stopped. As you all know, this is not the first time we have embarked on this kind a Program.

"My late father won his election based on three campaign promises namely; Security, Education and Empowerment. And he made tremendous achievements in fullfiment of his campaign promises as evident in the construction of school infrastructure, purchase of security vehicles and gadgets for various security outfits in the Constituency as well as empowering women and youths.

"I have promised to continue where my late father stopped so as to have the Constituency of his dream fullfilled".

Faisal posited that the target on women and children for the empowerment programs was deliberate. According to him, "The Youths (being leaders of tomorrow), must be empowered to enable them build themselves economically and placed them in the right position to face their tomorrow.

"This is necessary in order to remove them from negative influences like anti social groups, drugs and alcoholism, low self-esteem and boredom.
