The panel of judges
handling the National and State Assembly Election petition tribunal in Plateau
State and the Counsels involved in the petitions before the panel have decried poor ventilation in the court room situated at west of mines Jos, venue of the tribunal.
During its inaugural
sitting about two weeks ago, the chairman of the tribunal Justice TM Nzegwu had
to request for a standing fan to the bench as a result of intense heat in the
court room. Also, Counsels and other parties that attended the session bitterly
complained on the condition in the court room. Hot weather has characterized
Jos City of recent unlike the previous years, which experts have attributed to
Global Warming.

Immediately after the
court session on Thursday, Chief Odey, one of the counsels involved in the
tribunal further lamented the condition in which they found themselves in and
wondered why it was so despite the fact that there was a new looking standing
modern LG split air condition unit in the court room, yet not functioning. He
called on the Plateau state government to do something about the system
immediately to enhance the performance of the tribunal. Odey said this was necessary
taking into cognizance that the court room has no cross – ventilation.
Also speaking, the
Chairman of the tribunal said that even the air condition in the Judge’s
chamber was faulty. Over 20 petitions are before the tribunal and the court
room is always filled to its capacity by supporters of the petitioners whenever it
is in session.
