Operation
“ Puff Adder” launched by the Plateau State Police Command to combat crimes.

The Plateau State Command
of the Nigerian Police has launched a special operation, code named “Operation Puff
Adder’ aimed at combating crimes in Plateau and other neighbouring states.
Delivering his speech, the deputy Commissioner of Police Department of Finance and
Administration (DCP) Bature A Umar who represented the Commissioner of Police said
the launching was in line with the directive of the Acting Inspector General of
Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, mni.
According to him, the operation would specifically
targeted crimes like kidnapping, cultism, banditry, armed robbery, Sara Suka among
other crimes. “in compliance with the IGP’s directive, the Plateau State
Command today inaugurates a special squad code named Operation Puff Adder under
the direct supervision of the Commissioner of Police. The main power of this
operation is drawn from the conventional Police, Police Mobile Force (PMF) Counter
Terrorist Unit (CTU), Special Protection Unit (SPU), Special Anti-Robbery Squad
(SARS), State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) and State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence
Department (SCIID), “Stated Umar.
Consequently, the command
solicited for the support, co-operation, understanding collaboration of
security agencies, critical stake holders and members of the public to ensure
the safety of the state.

He called on the public
to volunteer useful information to the Police about criminals and their
activities. In his remarks, Plateau State Governor Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong,
who was represented by his deputy, Prof. Soni Tyoden commended the command and
urged members of the operation to be up and doing to justify the confidence
reposed in them.
He further called on all
stakeholders in the peace project in Plateau State to cooperate stressing that
security is everybody’s business and promised that the state government will
give every necessary cooperation and support to ensure the success of the
operation.
African Drum reports that there were goodwill
messages from the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3rd Armoured
Division who was represented by the Garrison Commander, Brigadier General M.
Mohammed, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Major General ACC Agunro
and the Zonal Director, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) who was represented
by Sani Ibn Salihu.
Also present at the event
were heads or representatives of all the security agencies and special
operations in the state as well as the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN),
Neighbourhood Watch (NW) the Police Community Relations Council (PCRC) among others.
