National Assembly Petition Tribunal resumes sitting in Jos.

Hearing of applications and pre-hearing continued on Monday in the National and Houses of Assembly Petition Tribunal in Plateau State at the High Court, West of Mines, venue of the tribunal. When the petition No. EPT/PL/NA/HR/01/2019 between Hon. Danjuma Haruna and the All Progressive Congress (APC) or the petitioners’ verses Engr Solomon Maren and the People’s Democratic Party or 1st and 2nd respondents was called, Counsel to the Petitioners, BZ Rimven told the tribunal that the matter was slated for today for hearing of applications “My Lords, the matter is slated for today for hearing of applications but we have not filed any as we are also not in receipt of any application. We ask for a date to proof our case” said Rimven. Chief S.G. Odey, counsel to 1st and 2nd Respondents draw the attention of the tribunal to the fact that pre-hearing report will have to be issued before a date is taken also taken into account of paragraph 18 sub-paragraph 6,7 and 8 of the rules of procedure of election tribunal. The matter was adjourned until Wednesday May, 22 for the pre-hearing report.

When the petition number EPT/PL/NA/SEN/02/2019 between Kefas Peter Dandam and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or the petitioners’ verses Ignatius Lonjan Datong and the All Progressive Congress (APC) or 1st and 2nd respondents was called, Counsel to the petitioners S.G. Odey told the tribunal the matter was slated for today for commencement of hearing.
“For the petitioners, the matter is slated for today for commencement of the pre-hearing and upon receipt of the pre-hearing sheet from this honourable tribunal, we filed the petitioners’ answers to the question contained in the pre-hearing information sheet on 11 May, 2019 and with the kind permission of your Lordships, we humbly adopt these answers” said Odey.

Counsel to 1st, 2nd and 3rd respondents, Kehinde Obas, M.N. Dawam and L.D Dafer respectively told the tribunal that have also filed their answers to the questions contained in the pre-hearing information sheet in May, 14 2019, May 13, 2019 and May 15, 2019 in that order.
In his further submission, counsel to the petitioners said that they have indicated in paragraph 14 of their answers to the pre-hearing information sheet their intention to file three applications and asked the tribunal three days to enable them to do so.

Counsels to 2nd and 3rd respondents equally told the tribunal that they have also indicated in various paragraphs in their answers to the pre hearing information sheet their intentions to file six and five applications respectively and asked for five days each to enable them do so.  The tribunal granted all the requests. Counsel to the 1st respondent however said the 1st respondent had no intention to file any application.

The matter was adjourned until Monday 22nd May, 2019 for hearing of all applications.
