The governorship election petitions tribunal sitting in Jos has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission {INEC} in Plateau State to release materials used for the March 23 governorship election for inspection by the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP)’s legal team.

A statement by the PDP Campaign Council signed by its Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee, Hon Abraham Yiljap and a copy made available to African Drum stated that the tribunal has also ordered INEC to release the Certified True Copies of the election results adding that the tribunal’s action followed what the statement called, “very urgent” application filed by the PDP counsels on Monday April 1, 2019, requesting the tribunal to compel INEC to release the documents for inspection.
It added that the three-member tribunal had two-members at the Monday session, but has yet to fix a date for its inaugural sitting.

According to the statement, the PDP legal team has filed ten petitions before the tribunal handling National Assembly and the State House of Assembly cases.
They include two senatorial, three House of Representatives and five House of Assembly seats stressing that these were all filed within the time specified and have been duly acknowledged.

The statement revealed that the PDP legal team on the other hand, has also been served with six processes on the election of five PDP National Assembly members-elect adding that three petitions concern seats from the Northern Senatorial zone and one each from the central and southern zones.

The PDP legal team is also said to have claim to have made "some interesting discoveries" in the course of preparing the petitions.  Governorship Candidate of the PDP in the election, Senator Jeremiah Timbut Useni is also said to have hailed the tribunal ruling as a bold move in the pursuit of justice and appealed to party officials, stakeholders and supporters to remain strong in the hope that the mandate of Plateau people will ultimately be reclaimed saying, “I will not abandon the struggle.”
