The legal
team of the Plateau PDP State Campaign Council has commenced filing petitions
before the two tribunals set up to hear cases related to the national assembly,
gubernatorial and state constituency elections conducted in the state.
This is
contained in a statement signed by Abraham Yiljap, the Chairman of Media and
Publicity Committee of the Plateau PDP Campaign Council.
According to
the statement, there are at least five national assembly and four state house
of assembly seats as well as the governorship that the Council’s legal experts
are challenging at the tribunals adding that the PDP lawyers were set to beat the dateline for the
legislative seats which expires this weekend, while work has intensified on the
governorship petition.
It added
that officials of the legal team have revealed that they have made some “very
interesting discoveries” in the course of preparing the petitions.
The Council
said that the legal team promised they were leaving nothing to chance as they
have been screening results with the greatest diligence and assembling the
appropriate human arsenals to achieve the desired goal stressing that there
will be surprises for sure when public seating starts.
The PDP counsels on the other hand are said to
be gearing up to defend petitions that may be contemplated against PDP elected
representatives.
Meantime,
the legal team is also said to be anxiously looking forward to the inaugural
seating of the two tribunals at yet to be announced dates.
PDP
governorship candidate in the 2019 election Senator Jeremiah Timbut Useni is
further said to have expressed determination to go all the way to legally
recover the mandate which he said was freely given by the people of Plateau but
hijacked through widespread electoral manipulations and intimidation.
Useni is
said to have appeal to PDP officials, members and supporters to have unceasing
hope, stating thus, “It is not yet over. This is only a temporary set back. We
have entered another critical stage in the restoration strategy.”
