Comrade Jibrin Bancir |
The re-election of Lalong is a clear indication of people’s trust
and confidence in him- Bancir

March 27, 2019.
The special
Adviser to Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state on Labour matters, comrade Jibrin Bancir has described the 2019
general elections as the best when compare to previous elections in the country especially
that of 2015. Bancir made this statement on Wednesday when speaking to African Drum.
He noted
that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) gave its best during
the 2019 elections and succeeded in moving the country away from common
irregularities usually witnessed during previous elections stressing that the
card reader worked better and the accreditation process was also far better in
2019 than it was in 2015.
“The 2019 general elections are far better than the
one conducted in 2015. I believe INEC has tried and we are moving away from
common irregularities usually witness during elections. The card reader has
worked better, the accreditation process was also far better this year than how
it used to be before now”.
Bancir
stated that for Lalong to have gotten his second mandate in a fair and
transparent process is a clear indication of the degree of trust and confidence
the people have in the ability of the Governor taking into account his performance
in the last four years.
He further
observed that in every contest, there must be a winner and a loser. He however
lamented the attitude of some politicians who only describe an election as
free, fair and credible when it favours them but fault the process when it doesn’t.
He reminded all of the that fact that
leadership only comes from God no matter how anyone thinks, because God destines
things to be the way we see them at any particular time.
The former
labour leader on the Plateau said that the second reason why Lalong was
re-elected apart from the process being far better than how it used to be is
because Nigeria electorates are also better enlightened and educated on
electoral matters now than what politicians thought they were.
Comrade Bancir |
“Before now,
some politicians do come overnight with ethnic and religious sentiments in
other to create confusion and caused division. But I want to tell you that the
electorates have gone beyond these sentiments to some extent.
“What they
are interested in now is your history, your track record and your previous
performance which serve as the only yardstick they used to measure candidates.
Currently, the people of this country are not taking anything for granted.
“Again, the
result of this election has shown clearly that the process is the will of God
because before and during the elections, many sentiments were raised in other
to scuttle the return of His Excellency, but he we thank God, that it is now
history”.
On rejecting
the result by the PDP flag bearer, Senator Jeremiah Useni, Bancir said that Useni was entitled to his
opinion which also falls within his fundamental constitutional right. “The
courts are there to interpret the results for anybody who is in doubt. I
wouldn’t want to say anything beyond this” he said.
The Adviser
was however quick to add that even the re-run was a formality. “Some of us knew that it was a work-over and
those areas that would have been challenged in court have been reduced to a
zero level after the supplementary election, so what is he going to challenge?
These are clear facts that have emerged”.
Bancir
strongly advised the older generation to begin to mentor younger generation to
think beyond tribal and religious sentiments so as to move Plateau State
forward.
He advised
Governor Lalong to carry everybody along so as help build a new Plateau that is
desired.
“My advice
to Lalong who is also my principal is that he should embrace everybody and I am
grateful he has made that clear in his acceptance speech, “No Victor, No Vanquish”.
“The elections
are over and what remains now is governance. I want to see Plateau State moved
to the next level. Lalong should embrace everybody to ensure that all
stakeholders work together for us to deliver the Plateau project that we
already started.
“There
should be no sentiment and I hope he utilizes all resources both human and
capital at our disposal to ensure that we achieve far better than what we met
on ground” said comrade Bancir.
And to the
people of Plateau, Bancir urged them to know that no authority ever came in
place without the consent of God stressing that Plateau cannot be great without
the support of all. “We must give genuine advises and constructive criticism.
The progress of Plateau State is our primary interest no matter which side of
the divide you belong.
“Parties are
only associations and platforms for obtaining power, once that is done, the
people come first and this is my advice to the people of Plateau. Let’s rally
round His Excellency, so he can be able to build the new Plateau of our dream”
he said.
