34 year old man to die by hanging for killing his mother

A 34 year old man, Godwin Bachir, a
resident of Fuskar Mata Village in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau
State, North Central Nigeria is to die by hanging for killing his biological
mother.
Bachir who has been standing trial
before Justice A. I.Ashom on a one count charge of culpable homicide since 2016,
an offence that is contrary to and punishable under Section 221 of the Penal
Code laws of Northern Nigeria. He was found guilty, sentenced and convicted in
accordance with the provisions of Section 273 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Delivering his judgement on the matter
with file No. PLD/160cr/2016, Justice Anshom said that the prosecution vide a
motion Ex-parte dated 7th March 2016 and filed 8th March
2016 sought leave pursuant to section 185(b) of the Criminal Procedure Code and
Rule 5 of the Criminal Procedure (Application for leave to proffer a charge in
the High Court). Rules 1970 to proffer a charge against the accused person.
Such leave was granted on the 15th March 2016. The charged preferred
against the accused person goes thus:
“That you Godwin Bachir ‘M’ on or about
the 27/1/2016 at about 0600hrs at Fuskar Mata Village Bassa LGA, Plateau State,
within the Plateau State Judicial Division, did commit an illegal act, to wit:
culpable Homicide punishable with death, when you armed yourself with stick,
attacked and beat one Saratu Barshiru ‘F’ of the same address aged 65 years
your biological mother to the state of comma, knowing that the consequence of
your act will be the probable cause of death of the deceased. You thereby committed
an offence contrary to and punishable under section 221 of the Penal Code Laws
of Northern Nigeria.”
