The Deputy Governor of Plateau State Professor, Sonni Tyoden has been accused of Nepotism. It is alleged that he has given larger percentage of admission and employment in Tertiary Institutions in the State to his Kinsmen by virtue of him being the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner of Higher Education.

A source informed African Drum that 50 Lecturers are to be employed in each of the tertiary institutions in the state, however, it is alleged that Prof. Tyoden has submitted 25 names all from his Maghavul ethnic stock to one of the higher institutions in the state for employment. It is also alleged that out of the 800 Secondary School teachers the state ministry of education intends to employ across the state, Tyoden has forwarded 250 names, all Maghavul to be employed.

All efforts to reach Professor Tyoden proved abortive as his cell phone was switched off. However, his Chief Press Secretary, Doman Wetkum denied the allegations vehemently describing them as concoction from Mischief Makers, stressing that Prof. Tyoden has been an architect of state character in all that he does, urging all to check his records both current and previous ones. He wondered how could Tyoden, who is the Commissioner of Higher Education, submit a list of 250 names to be employed in a department that is not under him?

Because according to Doman, “Secondry schools fall under lower education with another commissioner in charge”. If that allegation is true, his wife who is a professional teacher would not have been sitting idle at home.
