Over One hundred
and forty thousand (140,000) eligible voters have sought registration with the
new Action Democratic Party (ADP) Plateau State Chapter according to a source.
This is coming barely three days after the maiden meeting of stakeholders held
in Jos, the state capital and attended by some national officers of the party.
A check of the web site of the party shows hundreds of thousands of people utilizing
the platform to clarify information regarding the new political party most
especially in the area of registration.
Our reporter who
was at the temporary secretariat of the party at No 7 Dogon Karfe, Jos
witnessed a large crowd of people in and outside the secretariat. Those who
volunteered to speak to our reporter all expressed satisfaction with the ideology
of the party which is out to change the psych of Nigerians towards taking their
destinies in their hands and effecting the kind of change that would turn their
fortune for good and deepen our democracy.
Chief Ambassador Nanyah Andrew Daman JP ADP Chairman, Plateau State. |
One Gabriel
Matawal from Bwai in Mangu Local Government Area said what endeared him to the
new party was its liberal posture that is against monopoly by money bags.
According to him, “You cannot be a member of this party unless you are
registered in the true sense of it. Again, every card carrying member is an
automatic delegate during primaries which will be done through option A4 to
avoid what killed other political parties. So in ADP, every member is a
stakeholder and all have equal say in the party”.
This magazine
sought to speak with Pam Dachungyang, the state financial secretary of the
party but he was busy attending to people at the secretariat as he was the only
EXCO member on seat at that moment. A telehone call to the state chairman of
the ADP Chief (Amb.) Andrew Nanyah Daman JP was picked by one of his aides who
informed us that he was in a crucial meeting in Abuja but promised to book an
appointment for us to see him on Friday 30th of this month.
