Members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP
Plateau State chapter said their confidence towards taking over power in 2019
was rekindled as the frosty relationship between Senator Jonah David Jang and
the former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Nasiru Mantu came to an end. The
duo made their decision known today during a stakeholders meeting organized by
the party reconciliation committee headed by Prof. Dakum Shown in Jos.
Both Jang and Mantu commended the Prof. Jerry
Gana PDP led reconciliation committee set up by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, the
National Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party.
Senator Jang started by apologizing to whoever he
might have offended and called on members of the party to close ranks and work
towards building a stronger PDP.

In his contribution, Ambassador Fidelis Tapgun
expressed delight and happiness because Jang and Mantu have buried their
grudges and decided to work together again for the interest of the party,
Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
Prof. Dakum Shown also expressed delight, adding
that with the development, the PDP was set to work hard to present solid
alternatives in such a manner that Nigerians will be the utmost beneficiaries.
He however warned that for the reconciliation to be fully achieved, the party
leadership must respect the wish of the people as supreme.
Hon. Chris Hassan (C), PDP Chairman, Plateau North |
On his party Hon. Theophilus Dakas Sha, the PDP
chairman North Central, also gave kodus to both leaders, saying that the party
is now poised to re-strategize to taking over power from the ruling APC. He
said that the PDP is a political party built on values, tradition and utmost
respect for democratic tenets and promised that the party will continue to work
in the general interest of Nigerian people.
Also speaking on behalf of other PDP members in
the House of Representatives, Hon. I.D. Gyang also expressed gratitude to both
leaders saying that their decision is a strong pillar for the building of a
superstructure and called on members to take the golden opportunity to build on
positive momentum towards 2019.
In his remarks, Hon. Damishi Sango, the state
chairman of the party also commended Jang and Mantu for taking the bold
decision to bury their differences and work towards a stronger united PDP. He
said that the APC has never demonstrated superiority of its strategy of
development as its policies and programmes were poorly articulated and that is
why the APC is hardly defending its policies and programmes as a ruling party.
Sango added that the APC is not yet an organic party because it has not weaned
itself from the circumstances of it’s birth. That is why the APCt is also
facing a bigger challenge even in terms of its organization which, according to
the chairman, would soon prove debilitating.
Sango charged all to be apostles of the party’s
ideals and philosophy in their wards by constantly holding meetings. The
chairman further said that the PDP, and those that aspire for leadership
position under it, must be people of proven integrity and called on members to
be highly cautious of this factor.
Sango further said that the party was already
prepared for the Local Government elections, stressing that the party was also
poised for a 100 percent win as the ruling APC has not only failed woefully but
has also succeeded in placing Nigerians in a rather precarious condition.
Those that attended the meetings were: Senator
Jonah David Jang, (Plateau North), Sen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni (Plateau South),
Sen. Ibrahim Nasiru Mantu, (Former Deputy Senate President), Amb. Fidelis N.
Tapgun, (Former Governor of Plateau State), Hon. I.D. Gyang, (Member House of
Representatives), Hon. Istifanus Mwansat, Hon. Titus Alams, (Former Speakers
Plateau State House of Assembly), Hon. Sarah Ochekpe, (Former Minister of Water
Resources), All commissioners and Local Government Chairmen in the immediate
past administration in the state among other dignitaries.
