B.R.E.A.K.IN.G : Daika faults Useni on NWC of the PDP, says Sango was never exonerated

The former Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly, former member House of Representatives, former governorship aspirant and a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rt. Hon. George Daika has faulted the submission of Gen. J.T Useni on the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party on Hon. DT Sango, the embattled chairman of the party, Plateau state chapter and his deputy, Hon. Amos Gombi.  Hon. Daika reacted on the issue this afternoon when he spoke to African Drum in Jos.

Recalled that Useni conveyed a stakeholders meeting at his campaign office along Dogon Karfe Jos North, on Friday where he briefed them on a purported meeting held between party stalwarts from the state and the NWC on the recommendations of the David Mark committee and resolutions arrived at during the meeting.

Sango and his deputy were accused of misappropriation of funds of the party (running into billions of naira) immediately after the 2019 general elections. The allegation reached its apogee when 16 members of the party in the state petitioned the national office of the party over the allegations leveled against the duo
.
The situation led to the suspension of Sango and sacking of his deputy from office and constitution of a committee by the party at the national level led by David Mark, the former Senate President, Federal Republic of Nigeria to look into the issues raised in the petition. Another committee was further set up, led by Hon. Dakas Shan, the national vice chairman, North/Central Zone of the party to oversee the affairs of the party in the state pending the outcome of the Mark’s committee.

However, briefing some members of the party on Friday, Useni said he was doing so in his capacity as the leader of the party in the state as bestowed on him by the NWC. Continuing, he said that the NWC clearly stated that the David Mark committee did not find Sango and Gombi guilty of all allegations contained in the petition and have therefore, been cleared of any wrong doing.  He said that consequent upon the recommendations of the committee which is also on the way forward, the petitioners were asked to withdraw their petition and tender an apology in writing addressed to the national Secretariat of the party. According to Useni, the national Secretariat would in turn officially write Sango exonerating him of all allegations stressing that it is on the basis of all these that Sango would in turn resign and hand over to his deputy, Amos Gombi who would serve as Chairman of the party in the state in acting capacity until the party congresses in the state in March 2020.

However, Daika, in his reaction said that Useni’s briefing was not a true reflection of the outcome of that meeting where he said he was also in attendance. According to the former lawmaker, “This does not reflect the true situation at the meeting with the National Central Working Committee. Nothing like Exonerating Sango and Gombi of all the Allegations.  Sango pleaded to be exonerated of the Financial Allegations by NWC before he could tender his resignation. The national Chairman,  Uche Secondus, accepted in order to pave way for Peaceful resolution of the crisis but emphasized that "A Tree cannot make a Forest" for the fact that over 80% of Plateau State PDP EXCO, SEC, and Party Faithfull have lost confidence in his Leadership, he has to throw-in the towel and honorably Resign within 7days, while the  EXCO members that wrote the petitioned against Sango should equally write a formal Letter of withdrawal.  There wasn't anything like "tendering Apology to Sango. Secondus cautioned both Parties of risking being Sanction if any of them fails to meet up with the 7days ultimatum. Sango is not the one to hand over to Gombi. He was asked to liaise with the Organising Secretary for briefings on the handing-over procedure in line with the Constitutional requirement of filling all vacant offices of the party.

Speaking further, he said the suspension of Gombi and removal was never discussed at the meeting. “Gombi's suspension and subsequent removal was not tabled nor discussed by the NWC and never formed part of the terms of preference or issues before the His Excellency, Sen. David Mark's Committee.
“As such, going by the Party's Constitution, (as expressed by Secondus), Gombi takes over pending when the Northern Zone comes up with Sango's replacement for the office of the state Chairman. Gombi's case is within the preview of the State Exco and SEC as entrenched in the party's Constitution”, he said.

On the leadership of the party in the state, Daika said, “On the Acclaimed Leadership Assumption by Sen. J. T. Useni, the party's gubernatorial candidate in the just concluded, 2019 General Elections, is temporarily pending the outcome of the case at its last Bus stop which is the Supreme Court.
“I guess such position was only maintained for his age and to pacify him. Of note is that the decision of making the Party Gubernatorial Candidates Leaders of their respective states was purposely for the states without Sitting Governors for the particular purpose of the Elections.
“This also depends on the peculiarity of the state involved, eg in Kaduna state, our good brother and friend Hon. Hashiru couldn't have been the Leader of the party whereas former, Vice President, His Excellency, Namadi Sambo was there”, said Daika.
