CITN holds Mandatory
Professional Training Program in Jos.

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria ( CITN) held a one
day Mandatory Professional Training Program (MPTP) for members and non -
members on Tuesday in Jos the Plateau state capital. At the end
of the one - day training, participants were exposed to contemporary issues in
tax administration, practice, changes in laws and policies.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman, CITN Jos District & Society, Isaac Wadak (ACTI, CTP, FCNA) welcomed the 14th President, CITN,
Dame Gladys Olajumoke Ayinke Simplice and her Council members to the program.
The Chairman, on behalf of EXCO members further appreciated CITN
Congress for finding them worthy to be elected at the last Annual General
Meeting.

He said that after his EXCO took over formally in June
2019, it immediately dwelt on outstanding matters bequeathed to it by the
Immediate past EXCO. “These issues are membership drive, developing a cordial
and mutual beneficial relationship between the critical stakeholders ( Tax
payers, Tax Administrators and Tax practitioners)", said Wadak. He stated that
the EXCO was able to achieve such tremendous success through advocacy and courtesy
calls to various stakeholders such as Nigerian College of Accountancy, Kwal Bassa
, Tax Appeal Tribunal (TAT), Federal Inland Revenue Jos, Plateau state
Internal Revenue Service ( PSRS). He added that work was on progress on office
accommodation while tax payer education program was also on going.
Wadak stated that the Jo's Tax Practitioners Forum was formed
under the District with the main objective of ensuring professionalism in the
practice of Taxation as enshrined in the CITN Charter and CITN professional Rules
and Practice Guidelines.

Tuesday MPTP had presentation of papers by scholars and
Practitioners who are widely known for their depth and proficiency in the
various subjects which included; "Fiscal and Regulatory Issues in Solid
Mineral Industry, Taxes and Levies ( Approved list for collection) Amendment
Order 2015 - Matters Arising and Managing Tax Risk in Today's Business
Environment "
The CITN chairman extended his gratitude to the Permanent
Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Plateau state, Accountant General, Plateau
state, Chairman, Plateau state Internal Revenue Service, Heads of Department of
the Federal Inland Revenue Service Jos, Chairman and Commissioners of the Tax
Appeal Tribunal (TAT) North Central Zone, Director- General Nigeria College of
Accountancy Kwal Bassa, Nasco Group of Companies, Henry Edah, Yesuf Ahmed and
the MPTP Planning Committee led by DanPhilipHirkop, the immediate past Chairman
CITN, Jos and District Society.

The chairman sincerely hoped that the issue between ICAN
and CITN would be resolved in earnest adding that the Memorandum of Understanding (
MoU) between ANAN and CITN was a welcomed development which the institute would
leverage on to increase its membership. Earlier in her remarks, the 14th
President of the CITN, Dame Gladys Olajumoke Simplice who was represented by
the Chairman Education Committee, Professor Godwin Oyedepo urged participants
the make the most of the training to improve on their capacity.
Most participants who spoke to African Drum at the end of the training expressed satisfaction
adding that it was a worthy exercise because it has built their capacities
toward adding values in carrying out their professional duties.
Participants were also issued with Certificate of Attendance at
the end of the training.
