The
deputy speaker of the Plateau state House of Assembly Rt Hon Saleh Yitmong has
said that the Lalong government was quite aware of the responsibility and the
trust the citizen of Plateau state have bestowed on it and assured that the
government will not disappoint the people by making sure it delivers on its
mandate.
According
to Yitmong who spoke to our man in his office recently “sincerely speaking, to
whom much is given, much is expected and we understand clearly the mandate and
the responsibility the people have bestowed on us. We are all aware of the
burden, the responsibility and the trust the people of plateau state have given
us and I promise that we would not let them down.
“However,
we cannot beat our chest and say yes, we can do it all along without the cooperation
of the people. If you look at the quantum of votes that the governor got, you
would understand that there is a quantum increase compare to what he got in
2015 and that tells you the level of trust and confidence the people have him
and in that regard, it’s so enormous. So, we sincerely believe that Lalong has
the wherewithal and the capacity to move the state to the next level”
The
deputy speaker said the people of Plateau state found it expedient to re-elect Simon
Lalong for another four years because of his giant strides and achievements in
all areas of human endeavor in the last four years.
“To
God be the glory, we were given the mandate in 2015 and in 2019 the people of
Plateau went to polls to elect leaders who would run the affairs of this
country in the next four years.
“We
contested and the same people of plateau that gave us the mandate in 2015 also
found it expedient to equally extend a term of another four years to us
including Rt. Hon Simon Bako Lalong who has been the executive Governor in the
last four years.
“So,
his election is not by accident but as a result of the shear commitment on the part of Governor Lalong and the citizens found him worthy to continue with his developmental
strides.

The
law maker noted that when the administration of Lalong came on board in 2015,
it was confronted with so many challenges some of which had to do with peaceful
co-existence among the devise ethnic nationalities, non-payment of salaries as
well recession which badly affected governance. He however added that because
of his dynamic nature, Lalong was able to overcome these challenges and Plateau
is today, a better state.
“
Of course, all of us are living witnesses, that in 2015 when we came on board
there were numerous challenges and some of those challenges had to do with the
peaceful co-existed of the people of the state. Also, a sector of the society,
which is the working class had been damn as a result of non – payment of
salaries for a period up to seven months and above. Also, shortly after the
inauguration of the new administration in 2015, the country drifted into
recession and by extension, that actually affected governance. However, because
the captain of the ship who is a barrister, parliamentarian per excellence and
dynamic in ensuring a harmonious and peaceful co-existence and extension of
hands of fellowship to all diverse ethnic nationalities in the state. He has
done his best, and that is exactly what earned him the confidence of the
citizens and prompted his re-election.
Hon
Yilmong further said the people of his constituency are also happy with him on
what he is doing in the House of Assembly which also prompted his re-election
last month.
“Now,
going down to my constituency, which is Dengi and consider the number of votes I
won with in 2015, you will notice that it is a double percentage of the
votes I got in 2019. By that, without me saying a word, is a clear indication that the
people are at home with what I am doing as their representative. So, we would
continue to do more”.
Also speaking on the rejection of the governorship
result by the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the said election, Senator
Jeremiah Useni, he said it was not surprising particularly when one considers
the political history of this country and the language of opposition. He
however said that would not cause them panic and added thus;
“As
a government, we are looking into the future with regards to concrete physical
developmental policies anchored on the shoulder of the Hon. Simon Bako Lalong.
After all, he has provided the needed leadership expected of him and as legislators;
we would continue to give him the needed support.
“In
the history of plateau state, this is the only administration that has touched virtually
all the 17 local governments at a go where you see developmental projects cross
unlike the previous regime where most of its projects were concentrated in a
particular environment.
“So,
we are having a paradigm shift and Plateau would continue to move forward. so
my advice is that we should all be desirous of engaging in activities that
would enhance the upliftment of the state irrespective of political, ethnic or
religious affiliations” said Yilmong.
