The Chairman
of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Northern Nigeria, Rev. Yakubu Pam
has challenged the elected 19 Governors in the region to hit
the ground running in their respective states
to bring development down to the door steps of the people.
Rev Pam in a
statement issued to newsmen in Jos over the weekend said all states in the North were in dire need of development that will
touch the lives of the people, stressing that with
the right government policies that addresses the needs of the people,
the current crisis in some states of the
North will come to an end .
He stated
that each Governor must take the
issue of security of lives and property as number
one priority to avoid a repeat of ugly incidences of the recent past in some states where
many lives and properties were lost to merchants of death masquerading all over the villages and communities in the North under different guises.
Rev. Pam
further tasked the Governors and the elected state legislators in the region to
work in synergy and make pro- people laws and ensure they also execute projects
that have bearings on the lives of both the urban and rural dwellers.
The Northern zone CAN Chairman called on the
elected representatives to see themselves as servants of the people and not
their Bosses as has been the case..
He strongly
advised the Governors to be accountable to the people and leave legacies worthy
of emulation after their tenure in 2023.
In the recent concluded Governorship elections in 29 states of the Federation, 19 Governors in the Northern region were either elected newly or re-elected.
