SSAUTHRIAI, JUTH branch holds delegates conference

The Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associates Institutions (SSAUTHRIA) Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) branch holds its Quadrennial General meeting of Delegates conference  today.

 In his address, Chairman of the JUTH branch of the Association comrade Kabiru Mustapha welcomed delegates to the conference. He stated that JUTH branch of the Association was in comatose for fifteen years before it was revamped in November 2013 with the support of the former Chief medical Director of JUTH, Dr. Ishaya Pam

 Mustapha enumerated some of the aims and objectives of the Association to include providing benefit and assistance to its members and also dedicated to the betterment of the social and economic welfare of staff with dialogue and negotiation in calm and peaceful atmosphere.
The chairman said that in other to achieve the said aims, the Association has worked as partners in progress with the management of JUTH stressing that as it is today, members are proud to say that the Association is the most vibrant in the institution in spite of confrontations and rift by other sister unions.

He enumerated some of the achievements of the Association between November 2014 and now to include;
Organizing the first symposium lecture in the hospital on conflict management where a J.T.F. Commandant delivered lecture on security/ protection of life and property, reversal of wrong interpretation of Public Civil Service Rule on headship which affected three of the members, Store Catering and Audit, reversal of three year policy of promotion for junior cadres and facilitated in regulation of month-month/APIN staff.

Other achievements according to Comrade Mustapha are facilitating the absorption of fourteen members in APIN who were wrongly omitted and thirteen of them are members of the Association, obtained court injunction that restrained the management from implementing no-work-no-pay during JOHESU Aligator bite strike, regularization of members on same scale promotion with effect from January 1, 2019 among other numerous achievements

The occasion was declared open by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of JUTH, Professor Edmond Bwanwat who was ably represented by the Director of Administration of the institution, Mr Bitrus Ali.
 In his goodwill message, the former CMD of JUTH, Dr. Ishaya Pam extolled the virtues of Mustapha and the efforts he has made towards uplifting the Association.

Pam also said that he was proud of the association and hoped it would always seek to sort out issues outside court because according to him, “it’s always good to engage in dialogue”.
          High point of the conference would be the election and swearing in of new Exco
