The elders’ Advisory Council of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) said Governor Simon Lalong remains the most credible and widely acceptable man for the Plateau Project among all the other contestants for the seat. According to the Council, Lalong, within the three and half years he has been the Governor, has demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt his love and commitment towards a united and prosperous Plateau, as against the divisive acts of his predecessor.
The Elders made their position known in Jos today during a press briefing by its Chairman, JM Din on the forth coming election in Plateau State.

According to Din, “as we go into this Saturday’s election, we want to full endorse the candidature of His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong who remains the most credible and widely acceptable man for the Plateau Project among all the other contestants for the seat. Within the three and half years he has been the Governor, he has demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt his love and commitment towards a united and prosperous Plateau, as against the divisive acts of his predecessor”.

The Council also noted with great dismay what it called infantile and reckless behavior of the leadership of the PDP in Plateau State under the chairmanship of Damishi Sango who it said chooses every available opportunity to insult and disrespect the Governor and played on the sensibilities of the peace loving people of Plateau State.

According to the Council, “His usual body language of calling for violence when elections do not go the way of the PDP in Plateau State is highly condemnable and unacceptable to us. His antics in trying to act as an alternative electoral umpire as he did in the last elections are a case in point.

"His premeditated statements with regards to this Saturday’s gubernatorial and house of assembly elections are clear indications that the PDP is out to foment trouble if the elections do not go its way”.

Consequently, the elders’ council called on security agents to be vigilant and ensure peaceful, credible, free and fair elections and put an eagle eye on the opposition party in the state which the Council said is bent on winning at all cost.
The Council further observed with dismay vote-buying allegedly by the opposition which it said it witnessed in the last elections. “We call on our agents and supporters to be watchful to ensure that their votes really count on Saturday. Going by the last elections’ experience where many voters were disenfranchised as a result of the slowness and malfunctioning of card readers and late arrival of election materials, we call on INEC to put all strategies in place to ensure a hitch free exercise”.

The APC Elders Advisory Council also condemned the clandestine activities of some Church denominations which it said deliberately went all out to paint the APC black by calling it all sorts of names. “While we cannot behave like them, we want them to understand very clearly that the division they have caused in the Church is going to consume them sooner than later” said the Council.

It called on the electorates to come out en-mass and vote Governor Lalong whom it described as amiable, humbly and promise-keeping Governor who has left no one in doubt of his commitment to totally rescue Plateau State from the hands of those the council further described as self-seeking individuals who do not mean the state and its people well.
