 PLASIEC’S announcement: Violence protest in Bassa; 2 hospitalized, Chairman’s resident burnt.

Business activities in Jebbu Bassa was grounded on Thursday for hours following protest by youths in the area over the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC’s) declaration of APC candidates as winner of Bassa Local Government Council seat out of the just concluded Local Government Council Elections in the State.

Our man reports that while voters were anxiously waiting at the collation centre at the Local Government headquarters for the verdict of the returning officer on the election, PLASIEC allegedly announced the names of winners in 11 local governments but was however, silent on the result or figures.

Our reporter said the development angered the electorates most of them youths who quickly mobilized themselves and blocked all the entrances to the town and took to the streets, shouting “we no go gree, we no go gree”.
Shop owners were said to have quickly locked their shops.

The first casualty of the protest was the transition committee chairman of
The Local Government Council, Mrs. Sarah Bali whose resident was burnt by the protesters.
Nikiru, a student of Bassa Comprehensive Secondary School was admitted at Albarka hospital when she fainted as a result of shock owing to gun shots by security forces close to the school, while another youth, Samuel Angau was also admitted at the Cottage Hospital Kisaloi as a result of head injury sustained from beating he allegedly received from security forces.

However, it took the efforts of combine security operatives to quell the situation.
