Comrade
Sunday Longbap, Plateau State Chairman of Plateau Football Association (PFA)
has described the attitude of Hon. Solomon Dalung, sports minister as selfish.
Speaking on the recent concluded Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)’s congress
in Katsina the high point it which was the re- election of Amaju Pinnick for another four years and Dalung’s outburst that the election
was invalid, Longbap said, the NFF was a registered association with the
Corporate Affairs Commission under the supervision of the Ministry of Sports.
He however added that the said election stood on the basis of where its status came
from, that is, the legality of it but the role of the Ministry was purely
supervisory stating that for the above reason, whether the ministry’s official
were present during the elections or not does not matter like wise the outburst of the minister.
He
said that the decision of a congress of any association supersede every other
decision including the status binding members of such an association.
The
PFA chairman expressed surprise that after given the approval by the presidency
to conduct the election, the minister who is a representative of the president
refused to attend the event and even has the gut to say that the election was
invalid.
“To
the best of my understanding, a minister is a representative of the president
in that ministry. So, if the association is given the go-ahead by the
presidency to conduct an election, why would a representative of the president
make such a statement? We had the directive from the presidency that is why the
election was held. So, whether the minister likes it or not the approval was
given and his role was just to supervise.” Said the chairman.
According
to him, the said election had representative from FIFA, the parent body of all
National Federations saying that the Hon. Aminu Masari, the executive Governor
of Katsina State and the Chief host declared the congress open adding that its only the minister that knows best why he refused to attend the congress.
The
chairman however said that the minister was fond of attending other NPF’s
events and collected allowances, consequently, he accused the minister of playing double standards. Longbap said that the fate of millions of youth and football enthusiasts cannot be toyed with due to personal interest of an individual
On
what Nigerians should expect in the next four years of Pinnick led NFF, he said
that first and fore most, the administration will consolidate on its position.
“Really, much needs to be done. We have
to go to the round table are reconcile with aggrieved parties so we can have a
holistic developmental programmes on football in Nigeria. Structurally too, we
would give space to those who lose to enable them contribute their quota to
ensure proper participation and enhancement of the game of football in Nigeria”
