PLATEAU ASSEMBLY: EFFORTS TO RETURN IMPEACHED SPEAKER FAIL

All efforts aimed at returning Hon. Peter Azi, the impeached speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly failed
Azi of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and Hon. Yunkwap Henry Majority leader under the same party were impeached last week. Members of the House impeached the two after passing a vote of no confidence on them.
A motion to impeach them was moved by Hon. Peter Gyendery of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Barkin Ladi Constituency and endorsed by two-third of the members.

However, sources informed African Drum that since after the impeachment of the duo, Azi and his cohorts have not rests in exploring all avenues to ensure his return.
These efforts according to a source prompted the convening of a stakeholders meeting of the APC in Government House Little Rayfield three days after the impeachment of the speaker and was chaired by His Excellency, Simon Bako Lalong.
The meeting had in attendance, all members of the State Executive Council, all APC members in the House of Assembly, the State Chairman of the APC and the Secretary as well as other stakeholders.

The meeting which is said to have commenced at 10am and lasted for almost eight hours did not yield any positive results in favour of the impeached speaker.

Supporters of the former speaker were said to have sold ethnic dummy to the Izere nation a day before the meeting but that also failed as all Izere sons and daughters in and outside Plateau state including traditional rulers and community leaders that were contacted on the matter all supported the impeachment of Azi.

Initiators of the ethnic dummy wanted the Izere nation to come up with a unanimous position, possibly in form of protest in writing which would have been tabled as the main agenda for the meeting.

As it is currently, Hon. Azi is said to be in a state of confusion as he has not come to term with reality. He is also said to have blamed some members of the House who kept assuring him that his position was secured.

The impeachment of Azi last week came after nine unsuccessful attempts.
A member representing one of the constituencies in Jos North is said to have been Azi’s pillar in the house and was also responsible for the botched impeachment attempts previously.
